MISSION SAN LUIS REY MASTER PLAN
Mission San Luis Rey de Francia
Oceanside

The 200-year old Mission San Luis Rey de Francia is one of only three California Missions still serving as an active facility, owned and operated by the Franciscan Order.  In addition to the Friary, historic buildings, gardens, museum and cemetery, the 55-acre property hosts a retreat center and numerous special events throughout the year.  Detailed land use and infrastructure planning was required to preserve and enhance the existing uses, while providing for growth opportunities within the Mission site. Potential future uses would help to supplement ongoing revenues for operation and preservation of its historic resources.  The Lightfoot Planning Group facilitated development of a Master Plan, which addressed the divergent needs and interests of the Friars, Native Americans, various historic and community organizations, while maintaining the unique historic and natural attributes of the site.
